I’ve Used Pee Pads for Years — Here Are the 4 I’d Choose Today

Pee pads have been part of my house for years. I started using them when Emma Sue was a puppy, and over time I’ve tried everything from inexpensive everyday pads to thicker, more absorbent options that were sent to me as samples.
What I’ve learned is that there really isn’t one “best” pee pad for every dog or every household. Sometimes you need something inexpensive that you can change often. Sometimes you need better odor control. And if you have a small dog who may be home for several hours, size and absorbency can matter a lot more than saving a few dollars.
These are four pads I’ve actually used in my own home. Two I purchased myself, and two were originally sent to me as free samples through TikTok Shop. I’ll tell you where each one worked well, where it didn’t, and which one I would choose today.

These are the pads I used for years, starting when Emma Sue was a puppy. They’re inexpensive, lightweight, and they do the job, especially if you’re home and able to change them regularly.
The biggest weakness for me has always been the edges. If your dog gets too close to the side, they don’t absorb quickly enough to stop liquid from running off the pad. They also aren’t a pad I’d leave down for a long stretch and expect to handle multiple uses.
But for the price, I still think they’re a perfectly reasonable everyday option. If you want an inexpensive pad that you can change frequently without feeling like you’re throwing away a dollar every time your dog pees, this is the one I’d choose.
What I liked: Very affordable, easy to replace frequently, and perfectly adequate for everyday use.
What I didn’t: Lightweight, not as absorbent as the others I tried, and the edges are the weakest point.
Best for: Someone who wants a basic, inexpensive pad and is home often enough to change it regularly.
Amazon Basics Pee Pads — Best Everyday Convenience
I switched to these mainly for convenience. Having a box of pee pads delivered to the door instead of having to remember to pick them up at the store made life easier, and they turned out to be a step up from the inexpensive pads I had been using.
They feel a little thicker, they absorb well, and I found them better at controlling odor as long as I changed the pad reasonably soon after it was used. I also had fewer problems with leakage.
The edges still aren't perfect. If Emma Sue gets too close to the side, liquid can reach the edge before the pad has time to absorb it. After trying four different kinds of pads, though, I've learned that this isn't unique to Amazon Basics. Sometimes the problem isn't the pee pad. Sometimes the dog simply missed. 😂
What I liked: Better absorbency than my budget pads, good odor control, convenient delivery, and still reasonably priced.
What I didn't: The edges can still lose the battle when a dog gets too close to them.
Best for: Everyday use when you want a little better performance without jumping to a premium pad.

Earth Rated Max Absorbency — Best Premium Standard Pad

Earth Rated was one of two pee pads I originally received as a free sample through TikTok Shop. I wasn’t required to give it a positive review, and after using it in my own home, it became one of my favorites.
The first thing I noticed was how much thicker it felt compared with the less expensive pads I had been using. It absorbs liquid quickly, holds considerably more, and I noticed very little odor. The edges also felt better reinforced, which helped with one of my biggest complaints about cheaper pads.
It still isn’t magic. If Emma Sue gets far enough over the edge, no pee pad is going to save the floor. But when she actually hits the pad, Earth Rated does an excellent job of catching and absorbing the liquid quickly.
For me, the downside is simply price. It costs more than a basic everyday pad, so whether the extra absorbency and odor control are worth paying for depends on how you use pee pads in your house.
What I liked: Thick, very absorbent, quick to catch liquid, excellent odor control, and better reinforced around the edges.
What I didn’t: More expensive than the everyday pads I purchased myself.
Best for: Someone who wants a higher-quality standard-size pad and is willing to spend more for better absorbency and odor control.

MIZOK Charcoal Pads — Best Overall / Best for Long Hours

MIZOK was the other pee pad I originally received as a free sample through TikTok Shop, and I ended up trying three different sizes. I’m currently using the extra-large version, and it is huge — roughly twice as long as the regular pads I was used to using while staying about the same width.
These surprised me. They’re thicker, extremely absorbent, and they dry very quickly after use. They’re also black instead of the usual white or blue, and in my experience the odor control has been excellent. I’ve had very few leaking accidents with them, especially with the extra-large size.
The larger size is what really changed my opinion of them. If you have a small dog who may use the pad more than once while you’re away from home, having that extra room gives the dog a much better chance of actually hitting the pad. And as we have already established, sometimes the dog is the problem. 😂
They do cost more than a basic pad, but after using all four of these, MIZOK is probably the one I would choose today. For me, the combination of size, absorbency, quick drying and odor control makes the extra cost worthwhile.
What I liked: Excellent absorbency and odor control, dries quickly, thicker construction, very few leaks, and multiple sizes available.
What I didn’t: More expensive than basic pads, and the extra-large size takes up considerably more floor space.
Best for: Small dogs who may be home for several hours, households that need better odor control, or anyone who wants a larger, more absorbent pad and doesn’t mind paying a little more for it.
